Mate Gourd & Spoon
The mate gourd and spoon, traditionally called the calebasse and the bombilla, are used to drink yerba mate in Brazil. This tradition developed in small villages and is still practiced today. The spoon, made out of the traditional silver, has a built on sive to prevent the yerba mate leaves from being pulled into the mouth. Each gourd is carved out by hand and topped with a metal rim.
