The term "herb wife" comes from the Middle Ages and refers to a village healer, one who would have used all manner of local herbs to meet the health and personal care needs of her village. Today, our Herb Wife is Chartered Herbalist Rebecca Graves, and with this new Internet store the village has gotten a lot bigger!
Rebecca enjoys indulging her lifelong fascination with the medicinal properties of plants and love of "making stuff". At first, she started small with healing salves and teas for family use. Soon, demand for her health and beauty products grew and blossomed through family and friends, and eventually people she had never met before were asking for her products. It was time to plant a new seed, and The Herb Wife business sprouted as a result.
About 80% of the herbs she uses are organically grown in her gardens or are personally wildcrafted from undisturbed fields and forests. (Wildcrafting refers to gathering naturally occurring herbs from wild and uncultivated areas in an ethical and environmentally positive manner, ensuring that plant populations in these areas continue to thrive.) The other 20% are organically grown or wildcrafted by local growers or reputable companies. This is how she ensures their quality and thus the quality of the products, and makes use of the healing properties of the plants that are native to the locale.
